The Source of Information and Assistance on Elder Abuse

National Association of State Units on Aging (NASUA)

The National Association of State Units on Aging (NASUA) is a national, non-profit, public interest organization which provides information, technical assistance, and professional development support to its members - the 57 state and territorial government agencies on aging. The mission of NASUA is to improve the lives of older Americans by advancing the capacity of State Agencies on Aging to execute their charge of ensuring that society's institutions - social and economic, public and private - provide the opportunities and benefits essential to guaranteeing the dignity of older people. NASUA works to promote social policy at the federal and state levels responsive to the needs of older Americans. Its proximity to the center of national decision making allows the Washington D.C. staff to assess and report on congressional and executive actions, assisting State Agencies on Aging to better serve the elderly.

NASUA is the lead agency for the National Center on Elder Abuse and operates a National Resource Center on Long Term Care and the National Information and Referral Support Center, all funded by the Administration on Aging. It also collaborates with the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging to operate the Eldercare Locator (1-800-677-1116), a nationwide directory assistance service designed to help older persons and caregivers link to local aging services; and with the National Citizens Coalition for Nursing Home Reform to operate the National Long Term Care Ombudsman Programs Resource Center.

NASUA develops and maintains publications on a wide range of aging policy, program and management issues such as Older Americans Act, home and community-based long term care, older worker issues, elder abuse, state long term care ombudsman programs, information and referral, state leadership in minority aging and nutrition programs. A list of materials is available on request.
